Structure of process

Evolutionary process is a creative process (& vice versa). You step through iterations which includes, stepping back and forth, and moving sideways. You take a little from here and a little from there. You add something new. Often you discard. You make conclusions and connections, allowing the primitive idea to be something else. You diverge and converge. You arrive at and use similes, analogies, allegories, idioms, archetypes, metaphors as you step through the process and there comes a point when you have to stop in order to gather and realize your trajectories. So you stop at a creation. This creation only holds your mind momentarily, your mind gasps for breath and the flight continues.

Dan Norman on increasing unmet needs · posted by vaibhav bhawsar Sep 29, 2007

So now Dan Norman is talking of increasing unmet needs! While ethnographic research attempts to find the voids in everyday life to find design or innovation opportunities for new products or services, Norman is stepping back and bringing forth the importance of leaving alone the essential voids of life. In his own words-

Yes. Holes, gaps, and voids are essential to civilized life. They give us respite from the press of modern civilization, returning us to ourselves, with our own thoughts and our own resources. It is the space between things that allows us to be at peace with the world, to be in silence, to be undisturbed.
